The Fall of Jerusalem, Part 1. This class begins with an overall understanding of this time period in history. We then place emphasis on the moral, ethical and mystical lessons to be learned from the episodes related. We discuss the story of Bar Kamtza, who when publicly embarrassed in front of Sages, who stood silent to his indignity, took revenge by causing trouble with the ruling Roman authorities. We discuss what the Sages should have done, did do, and why there is a discrepancy between the two. We discuss Nero, the Emperor and the possibility of his converting to Judaism after fleeing his throne. We discuss the dangers of religious extremists and how in their misguided faith, they bring destruction to all around them. We conclude with a lesson about how be too delicate to face real life weakens one to the point where it can endanger their lives.
