The Shema Yisrael Prayer, why we say it, what it means. This lesson begins with a discussion as to why we pray and how one can be obligated to pray. We then discuss the Shema Yisrael prayer itself, asking how it is proper to be recited. Can the prayer be recited in any language or must it be recited in Hebrew? Our section of Talmud discusses two different opinions, but does not decide between them which is to be followed. We discuss the law of following the majority opinion over one or many minority opinions. We conclude this lesson with a discussion about the Shulkhan Arukh, the Code of Jewish Law, and read the laws relating to prayer from Orah Hayim, section 62.
