2 Samuel 19-20. The Return of David & the Fall of the Last Rebel. David mourns the death of Avshalom and is strongly admonished by Yoav for doing so. David acts like a father who lost a son, Yoav demands that David act like a king who has just been victorious in battle. Now with Avshalom dead, David works to solidify again his position as head of state, yet there is conflict between the northern tribes of Israel and the southern tribe of Judah. Amasa, head of Avshalom's army is called upon by David to replace Yoav and chief of all the Israelite armed forces. Yoav assassinated Amasa, and faces no retribution from David. A rebel of Benjamin refuses to resubmit to David. With loyal forces he takes refuge in a city, which is promptly sieged by Yoav. In order to save the city, the people therein kill the Benjaminite, thus sparing their own lives. The lessons we learn from this.
